MP welcomes campaign victory after future of Haverthwaite surgery is secured
Cumbrian MP Tim Farron has warmly welcomed a decision from health bosses not to close Haverthwaite GP surgery.
Back in August, Haverthwaite Surgery was served with an eviction notice from its landlord.
A petition started by Tim, was signed by more than 1,400 local residents, called on the Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care Board (ICB) to accept a bid from the surgery to relocate to a new premises up the road.
At a meeting on Thursday, the ICB agreed to approve the surgery moving to a new location in the village.
Speaking today, Tim said: “I’m absolutely over the moon that health bosses have agreed to relocate Haverthwaite surgery to a new location up the road – rather than forcing residents to travel out of the area to see a GP.
“I want to put on record my enormous thanks to everyone who signed our petition and to the fantastic staff at the surgery who made their voice heard.
“This is another fantastic victory for community campaigning.”
