South Lakes MP Tim Farron has praised the move by t he local Lib Dem district council to put the climate emergency at the heart of its decision making.

The council has created the role of cabinet member for climate emergency and localism which will be taken up by Windermere councillor Dyan Jones.

Earlier this year, SLDC became the first council in Cumbria to declare a climate emergency.

Tim said: "The climate emergency is the biggest issue that we all face.

"So, this is a really positive step from the council and shows a real commitment and focus on this issue.

"It also shows that the council aren't complacent with the work that they are doing on the environment and acknowledge that far more needs to be done if we are to play our part in tackling the climate emergency."
