MP votes for compensation for 6,000 WASPI women in Westmorland

In Parliament this week, Cumbrian MP Tim Farron voted for a bill paving the way to give compensation to WASPI women.
It follows an independent report that found they had suffered an injustice due to a failure to properly inform them of pension age changes.
According to figures from the House of Commons library, 6790 women in Westmorland and Lonsdale were affected by the changes to the State Pension Age.
However the motion failed to receive support from Conservative and Labour MPs.
Speaking after the vote, Tim said: “I was proud to vote for a bill to tackle the gross injustice faced by thousands of women here in Westmorland.
“For Conservative and Labour MPs to fail to back these women is an immense disappointment.
“The Liberal Democrats will continue to stand up for the WASPI women at every turn and keep fighting until they get the justice that they deserve.”
