MP urges new owner to "preserve spirit of classic film" in 'Withnail and I' house

South Lakes MP Tim Farron has welcomed the news that a new buyer has been found for Sleddale Hall near Shap, but has urged the new owner (Mr Tim Ellis of Canterbury) to preserve the spirit of the classic film in his development of the property.

Speaking this afternoon, Tim said: "Millions of people - me included - have an affection for Sleddale Hall and the central part it played in Withnail and I. I hope that Mr Ellis will preserve the spirit of the film - and uphold Uncle Monty's standards of interior and exterior decoration! I also hope that Mr Ellis will provide some form of public access. If Mr Ellis would like support in bidding for help from the likes of English Heritage to preserve the cultural significance of the building, I will be very happy to provide it."
