South Lakes MP Tim Farron is urging local people to support some local good causes as they battle for funding in the Lloyds Bank Community Fund scheme.

Earlier this year, local people nominated over 7,000 community groups across England, Wales, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man and Channel Islands. 1,400 causes in 350 communities were then shortlisted for the Community Fund award.

Four local causes in every area will be awarded funding depending on the number of votes they receive. The group with the most votes will get £3,000, the next £2,000, £1,000 and finally, £500.

Voting can be done on the website via email, Twitter, SMS or in your local Lloyds Bank branch.

Two Kendal organisations have put themselves forwards, as well as two Flookburgh good causes. Sight Advice South Lakes and South Lakeland Hydrotherapy Trust (SLHT), both based in Kendal are battling against Settle Area Swimming Pool and Cancercare for funding, who albeit based in Lancaster have a base in Kendal.

Flookburgh based Bay Search and Rescue and 'Flooks 4 Youth' are competing in the Barrow in Furness section. Flookburgh Youth Club provides the only safe place for rurally isolated young people to meet and socialise outside of school. They deliver an exciting and engaging programme that promotes a positive attitude and developing basic life skills. By taking the group on trips they broaden their experiences outside the village. The Bay Search and Rescue team do an amazing job and save lives on the sands.

You can vote online, by SMS text, or in participating Lloyds Bank branches:

Tim said: "I am delighted that four amazing local charities have put themselves forward for funding. Each of these organisations do a wonderful job and I am urging local people to support them.

"I'm pleased that these five good causes are not all up against each other so you can do what I have done and support all of them!"
