MP urges health bosses to tackle local NHS dentistry crisis

12 Nov 2018

Local MP Tim Farron is pressing health bosses to deal with the ongoing NHS dentistry crisis in South Cumbria.

Currently there is a shortage of NHS dentists in Westmorland and Lonsdale, resulting in no NHS dentist in Kendal accepting any new adult patients.

Tim has written to NHS England to make the case for more resources, including more NHS dentists in the area.

During a meeting last week with the new Clinical Chair of Morecambe Bay, Geoff Jolliffe, Tim raised the need for the situation to be urgently resolved.

Tim said: "This is nothing short of a local crisis.

"I am receiving numerous letters a week from constituents who are finding it impossible to access a dentist on the NHS.

"The Government needs to urgently address this by providing our area with more NHS dentists.

"Local people have already paid for NHS dentistry through their taxes - it is high time that they should be able to get what they have paid for!"
