MP uncovers shock new plans which hand final say over the future of South Lakes hospitals to health bosses across Lancashire
South Lakeland MP Tim Farron has uncovered plans which will give health trusts in Lancashire the final say over health provisions in the South Lakes.
Under new plans from Jeremy Hunt, the Conservative Health Secretary, hospital trusts in South Cumbria will not be able to veto changes to services in its own hospitals as they will be outnumbered by NHS officials from Lancashire.
The Government has forced local trusts to save £572m by 2021 through a 'Sustainability and Transformation Plan'. The cuts plan will force Morecambe Bay together with trusts from Blackburn, Preston and Blackpool
Tim said: "These new plans put the future of health services in the South Lakes in serious jeopardy.
"It's deeply concerning that the Government has given urban health bosses - with very little understanding of the rural South Lakes - the final say over the future of Westmorland General Hospital.
"I've written to Jeremy Hunt demanding this ludicrous proposal be chucked in the rubbish bin where it belongs."
