MP to run every day in January to raise money for Kendal mental health charity

South Lakes MP Tim Farron will run every day this month to raise funds for Kendal-based mental health charity Wave Forward.

The money that Tim raises will specifically go towards establishing a South Lakes counselling service for young people aged 16-18.

Wave Forward works alongside young people to deliver therapeutic programmes and counselling sessions. This work includes a 12-week 'Discovery Programme', piloted with Kirkbie Kendal School, that helps young people improve their own wellbeing, allowing them to better support others.

The charity also run campaigns and events that promote mental wellbeing and to tackle the stigma associated with mental health.

Last January, Tim ran every day to raise more than £7000 for Wave Forward.

Tim said: "I'm excited to be taking on the challenge to run every day in January to raise money for the brilliant mental health charity Wave Forward.

"Every year I'm seeing a rise in people contacting my office because their children are experiencing mental health issues, and they feel they have nowhere else to turn.

"Every pound you are generous enough to donate will help get those young people the support that they desperately need."

Lisa Atkinson, Director of Wave Forward said: "Tim's run everyday challenge last January helped us to pilot a counselling programme for young people needing immediate mental health support - a success which we are looking forward to introducing this year."
