MP Tim dons waterproofs and helps residents in the floods
South Lakes MP Tim Farron is out and about at flooding black-spots around the area to help local constituents and see for himself some of the problems being caused by today's bad weather.
Tim himself was prevented from reaching Westminsterbecause of a cancelled train due to floods further north.
Speaking this morning, Tim said: "My office has received calls from residents concerned about the rising water levels. I found myself here when I would otherwise have spent a day in London, so I took the opportunity to get my hands dirty dealing with flood related issues in our community. If I can help local residents with any flooding issue I am asking them to get in touch."
"We've had some successes recently with projects like the Stock Beck Flood Relief Scheme now in place, but we need much more work to protect local homes from flooding in future. For today, though, I thought the best thing to do was to roll my sleeves up and help with the clean up. Across the district, there is concern that some flooding has been caused because the County Council has not been keeping drains clear - this is just not acceptable."
