South Lakes MP Tim Farron has today expressed his gratitude to Cumbria Police for their hard work during this years Appleby Horse Fair.

It is estimated that more than 40,000 people visited Appleby Horse Fair this year, and indications show the number of caravans arriving on the site is up. The Appleby Horse fair is one of the biggest gatherings of the travelling community inEurope.

Over the weekend the Police dealt with a series of events such as making sure that horses were not washed in the riverEdenbecause of it's high water level.

Commenting, Tim said: "I want to pay tribute the hard working team at Cumbria Police and the Appleby Fair Multi-Agency Strategic Co-ordination Group for their work over the weekend. Their commitment and hard work helped this year pass reasonably quietly. In the coming weeks I will speak to local councillors and residents' groups to find out what lessons can be learnt and what we can do next year to make sure local residents are less affected by the fair in the run up to the event."
