Kendal's MP Tim Farron has thanked McDonalds in Kendal for backing Kendal's Torchlight event and pledging 25 marshals. Tim has said that this shows 'amazing community spirit' and has urged other people to come forward and be involved in the wonderful community event.

Kendal Torchlight Carnival is, and always has been run by volunteers. The Torchlight mantra is "for Kendal, by Kendal". The mammoth event needs lots of local people to give up their time and effort to help it. Even with the fantastic donation of help from Kendal's McDonalds branch, more help is needed. This year the following roles need to be filled:

  • Torchlight Route Marshals (90)
  • Entry Stewards (8 - Managing and Mixing Floats, Bands etc. at the Leisure Centre/Natland Road)
  • Audience Surveyors and Programme Sellers (10)
  • Judges (4)
  • Judge Chaperons (2)
  • First Aiders (12)

If you can take on one of these volunteer roles, or know someone who can, please contact us by calling 07721 906030 or email volunteers@kendal-torchlight-carnival.co.uk.

Tim said: "Torchlight represents the best of Kendal - it is a wonderful community event, put on thanks to the generosity of its volunteers. I want to thank McDonalds for their wonderful donation but the event still needs even more help so if you can offer your time or services please do!"

Councillor Chris Hogg, Culture and the Arts Portfolio at South Lakeland District Councillor added: "Torchlight an important part of Kendal's festival calendar and I'm very grateful to McDonalds for providing so many stewards."
