South Lakes MP Tim Farron has today thanked the emergency services and local search and rescue teams for their work during the recent bad weather.

Up to 15cm of snow has fallen across parts of northern England since Friday afternoon.

Tim said: "The dedication and commitment of our emergency services and the volunteers of our search and mountain rescue teams is second to none. During the bad weather they calmly went about their work, keeping others safe. I want to pay tribute to their fantastic work in what must have been a challenging situation.

"I want to also pay tribute to the gritting teams who worked around the clock doing everything they could do to keep our roads open."
