South Lakes MP Tim Farron has this afternoon thanked Electricity North West engineers for their work in reconnecting residents after the bad weather last night.

About 1,250 properties were left without electricity in parts of Cumbria and Lancashire after strong winds damaged overhead lines. According to Electricity North West many residents in Coniston, the western side of Coniston Water, and around Meathop were still off-supply this morning.

Tim said: "Over the last 12 hours, I know that engineers have worked hard to reconnect residents. I'd like to thank them for their herculean efforts."
