MP supports local charity CancerCare by setting up a JustGiving page
MP Tim Farron has set up a fundraising page for local charity CancerCare North Lancashire and South Lakeland.
JustTextGiving by Vodafone ensures that every penny donated goes straight to the charity. Donations of up to £10 can be made by the customer of network provider without any network charges. Gift aid can also be claimed on each donation.
Tim is fundraising for the local charity CancerCare. The charity is dedicated to supporting people with cancer as well as their families, carers and help with bereavement. Their services have been developed in response to the expressed needs of those whose lives have been affected by cancer.
This is just another part of his campaign to bring top quality cancer treatment to people in the SouthLakes. Over 2,000 local people joined on a march to hand over a 12,000 signature petition, jointly organised with the Westmorland Gazette as part of the 'Shorter Journeys, Longer Lives' campaign. The campaign has successfully brought Chemotherapy services to Westmorland GeneralHospital but we now need to bring a radiotherapy centre now too.
The National Radiotherapy Advisory Group has advised that patients should have to travel no more than 45 minutes for radiotherapy treatment. No part of the SouthLakes is within 45 minutes of the RoyalPrestonHospital, the nearest site of radiotherapy treatment - and some patients face journeys of over two hours each way. Currently patients requiring radiotherapy from anywhere in the SouthLakes and Furness peninsula have to make the gruelling journey to the Rosemere unit in Preston- sometimes on a daily basis.
Tim commented "The totally free JustTextGiving service allows charities to raise money by text message, which is a swift, effective way of fundraising. CancerCare is a great local charity that offers essential support to those who need it".
