MP slams Conservative Government for not caring about Cumbria after new stats reveal “summer of misery” for commuters in the South Lakes

South Lakes MP Tim Farron has hit out at the Government for ripping off commuters after it was revealed that trains were cancelled on the Furness Line at a rate of nearly one a day over the summer.

Data from the Furness Line Community Rail Partnership revealed that 110 trains were cancelled during the months from May to August.

The number of cancellations on the Furness Line during this period was almost four times as high as they were two years ago.

Tim said: "It is absolutely outrageous that at a time when rail fares are set for another big increase next year, mass cancellations have led to a summer of misery for commuters in South Cumbria".

"From the decision to shelve the electrification of the Lakes Line, to the shocking numbers of trains being cancelled on the Furness Line, commuters in the South Lakes are constantly being let down by a Conservative Government who simply doesn't care about them."
