South Lakes MP Tim Farron has today slammed Barclays decision to close their Ambleside branch.

In a letter to the MP the bank announced their decision to close their Ambleside branch. The branch based in Market Place in Ambleside will shut its doors for the final time on 5th December. The nearest branch after the closure will be in Crescent Road in Windermere.

Commenting, Tim said, "I am incredibly disappointed that Barclays are thinking about closing our local branch. It's not just people and businesses in Ambleside who will suffer, but also the surrounding areas as well. To expect people to travel that extra distance to pay a cheque is wrong. Elderly and vulnerable people rely on this branch and I hope that Barclays think again."

Ambleside & Grasmere councillor Heidi Halliday added: "This is a ridiculous decision. More and more of our rural banks are being closed. This bank is well used by residents, visitors and businesses. I urge everyone who is affected by this decision to write to Barclays and ask them to reconsider this closure."
