MP secures Urgent Question in Parliament on fuel price rises
Cumbrian MP Tim Farron has secured an Urgent Question in the House of Commons today on soaring fuel price rises.
It comes as the Competition and Market Authority (CMA) have published a report this morning that found that drivers paid nearly £1 billion more for fuel at supermarkets last year.
The CMA said that drivers buying fuel at supermarkets in 2022 have paid around 6 pence per litre more than they would have done otherwise, due to the four major supermarkets increasing their margins.
Tim said: "It's absolutely appalling that drivers have been fleeced by profiteering supermarkets - especially at a time when people are already struggling with rising prices in the shops.
"The government has failed to properly police the road fuel market leaving families to fork out higher prices at the pump.
"Ministers need to crack down on this urgently, by hauling the bosses responsible into Downing Street and holding them to account."
