South Lakes MP Tim Farron has expressed his concern for future of road policing as force announces traffic unit closure.

Tim Farron MP has urged Cumbria Constabulary to reconsider its priorities as the force announces plans to close its traffic unit and merge it with its main pool of officers.

Cumbria Constabulary has said: "By operating as a single unit, Cumbria Constabulary aims to maintain and improve performance and resilience."

Tim is urging the force to reconsider its options. He said: "My principal worry is that the closure of the Traffic Unit will lead to neglect in policing our roads.

"Without a dedicated Traffic Unit, local residents might see Traffic Patrols becoming less of a priority for Cumbria Constabulary. That would put local people in danger.

"I would urge the local police force to re-evaluate its priorities-traffic police are necessary and the safety of all road users is paramount."
