MP reacts to minister’s threat to sack Northern

Commenting on today's remarks from the Transport Secretary that Northern could be nationalised, local MP Tim Farron said: "We've been calling for this since Northern literally gave up running train services here in the South Lakes last summer and we had to find our own replacement service.

"The Government was lightning fast to remove the East Coast mainline franchise which serves London but has taken 18 months to even think about taking action against Northern's woeful performance.

"This is another key reminder how far removed the North of England is from the Conservative Government's priorities.

"We can't carry on with passengers being let down on a weekly, daily and even hourly basis by Northern."
