MP Raises Concerns About Blackpool Cardiac Centre

8 Jul 2016

South Lakes MP Tim Farron has written to health bosses to demand urgent clarification about the future of the Cardiac Centre at the hospital in Blackpool.

It was announced today that Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust was one of a number of hospitals which will have to stop providing complex medical care, such as widening the arteries and repairing holes in the heart.

Tim has written to NHS bosses to demand immediate clarification about the future of the unit in Blackpool, which is a Centre of Excellence for cardiac care. He has also asked for an explanation of the reasons for the decision, and the impact it will have on patients.

Tim said: "At the moment, South Lakes residents who need to use these services go to the Cardiac Centre in Blackpool. It is concerning that local people could end up facing an even longer journey if these proposals go ahead. I have asked health bosses to clarify exactly what their plans are, and what impact it will have on those who need to use these services. All too often, NHS plans overlook the long journeys which residents from rural areas have to make."
