South Lakes MP Tim Farron today met with Sally Buchanan and Ian Lilley of Post Office Ltd (PO Ltd) to discuss the future of rural post offices, putting particular emphasis on Levens post office after its closure in December.

As part of the discussion, Tim, Sally and Ian discussed potential alternative sites for the post office, with PO Ltd agreeing to look into funding options which would iron out any practical issues that could arise if the post office was to move sites.

Speaking after the meeting, Tim said; "As well as discussing rural post offices in general, I really wanted to focus on the future of the Levens service. There have been a number of post office closures in neighbouring villages which makes the Levens service even more vital for local residents and surrounding businesses.

"I will work with PO Ltd throughout to help in any way that I can. The Lib Dems have done a lot in government to secure an extra £1.4 billion for the post office network, so I am hopeful that, with this support, Levens post office can be reopened for our local community."
