MP PRESSES DEFRA FOR EXTRA MONEY TO SOUTH LAKES FLOOD DEFENCES
South Lakes MP Tim Farron has used the first day of the new parliamentary session to call on DEFRA to invest in new flood defence schemes in the South Lakes.
Today roads and rail services across South Cumbria have been affected by flooding and the River Kent is swollen with heavy rain from the previous few days.
Every time we have continuous rains in theSouthLakesareas many local roads flood, like the A591 close to Prizet filling station or the A684 near Sedbergh.
Tim commented: "I want to see DEFRA make a commitment to the South Lakes and invest in flood defences down the River Kent and in places like Prizet. In 2009 our area was deluged in the floods and the government made a promise to our communities - I am working hard to hold them to their promises."
