MP presses BT to bring superfast broadband to Windermere and Bowness

South Lakes MP Tim Farron has used a meeting with BT's Director of Public Affairs Tim O'Sullivan to press the case for a superfast broadband in Windermere and Bowness, insisting a commitment from BT to exploring the options for a new connection would be a massive boost for local residents and businesses.

Tim has campaigned tirelessly to ensure Cumbria's isolated and rural areas are not overlooked by the government and service providers. Tim met with BT on behalf of Daniel Shaw of local IT business Triarom, who raised concerns about slow service regularly affecting his business and local people.

Both parties at the meeting re-affirmed their commitment to improving broadband in the area, with BT's Tim O'Sullivan pledging to check current speeds and connectivity levels and work with both households and businesses to explore the options for the introduction of superfast speeds.

Tim Farron has already played a leading role in helping to secure £23.8 million in funding from the Government and BDUK to roll out a broadband scheme across the northwest, and is keen to ensure Cumbria's isolated and rural areas get the maximum possible benefit from this.

Commenting Tim said: "Superfast broadband is the key to unlocking the potential of the South Lakes and it is therefore essential that we find a way to ensure that everyone has access to it.

"I am pleased that BT are willing to explore the options for putting superfast broadband infrastructure in place for residents of Windermere and Bowness. It is essential that all our communities have access to this technology, with businesses standing to benefit exponentially as they seek to compete on a level playing field with other parts of the UK."
