MP praises South Lakes schools after “impressive” exam results
Local MP Tim Farron has praised the hard work of local pupils, parents and teachers after news of very positive SATs results for schools in the South Lakes.
New figures released from the Department for Education showed that 60% of primary schools in Westmorland and Lonsdale have seen an increase in the proportion of children achieving the expected levels of success in reading, writing and maths since 2017.
The biggest increases were at Hawkshead Esthwaite Primary School (from 50% in 2017 to 82% in 2018), Grayrigg CofE School (from 50% in 2017 to 80% in 2018), and Grange CofE Primary School (from 60% in 2017 to 79% in 2018).
Tim said: "These results are testament to the hard work of children, parents and teachers across our area.
"The Government have made SATs even tougher this year and the pressure on both pupils and teachers to perform is greater than ever before.
"So, I hope they are all celebrating these very impressive results - we should be very proud of them."
