A homeless winter shelter run by Kendal charity Manna House has been praised by South Lakes MP Tim Farron.

The project utilises lots of different church buildings to offer accommodation to homeless people during the winter months. It was started in response to concerns over people sleeping rough during the coldest time of the year in our area and offers up to 10 beds per night, a hot meal and some supportive company.

This year six church buildings are coming together to offer accommodation for 7 nights of the week between the 1st December and the 28th February.

Manna House coordinates the shelter by training and equipping the volunteers who man it and by assessing potential guests and booking them in from Manna House.

The project is possible thanks to the generosity of people donating money, food and time to the shelter - if you could donate, please go to www.justgiving.com/mannahouse.

Tim said: "Manna House do some amazing work in our community and help change people's lives for the better. They do this through their help, support and their staff - the team led by Penny Severn and Jonathan Brook work tirelessly to help local people. I feel that same commitment and I am proud to call myself a friend and supporter of Manna House.

"I also want to pay tribute to all the fantastic volunteers who give up their time to help and support other people. They represent the best of our area. The love and compassion the team show really does make a difference to vulnerable people in the winter and I am delighted to be backing their Winter Shelter campaign and I know it will be a big success."
