MP pays tribute to Kendal FC President Sir Tom Finney
South Lakes MP Tim Farron has paid tribute to Sir Tom Finney, one of the finest footballers in British history, who died at the age of 91.
Finney was famous for his loyalty to Preston North End, for whom he made over 400 appearances over a 24-year career. The winger also made 76 appearances for England between 1946 and 1958, scoring 30 goals. He was awarded an OBE in the 1961 Queen's New Year Honours before being given a CBE in 1992 and was then knighted in 1998. After he hung up his boots he became President of Kendal Town FC.
Tim said: "I was incredibly saddened to hear the news of Sir Tom Finney's passing, he was breathtakingly talented player and decent man, whose contribution to football was immeasurable. His association and support of Kendal Town really did make a difference. My thoughts and prayers are with his family."
