MP Meets Youth Forum Members
Westmorland and Lonsdale MP Tim Farron met with members of the North West Youth Forum on Saturday, to discuss his role as an elected representative and the young people's concerns about the area.
Tim met members of the North West Youth Forum at their Cumbria meeting at Brathay Hall in Ambleside on Saturday. Tim spoke to the group about his own journey into politics, and they discussed the need for more young people to be engaged with politics and to vote, so that their voices are heard. Tim also talked with the group about the issues that concern young people in the area.
The upcoming EU referendum was also discussed, and the impact that it will have on young people.
Youthforia, the North West Youth Forum, is a regional group of around 100 young people aged 11-18 who come together around 6 times a year to debate and discuss issues that affect young people in the North West. The group also co-ordinate the UK Youth Parliament in the region.
Tim said: "It was fantastic to see so many young people meeting to discuss the issues that affect them, and think of ways that to engage young people in politics.
"Far from the image of apathetic young people often portrayed in the media, these young people were thoughtful, positive, and eager to make a difference in their communities.
"It was particularly encouraging to see how interested the Youth Forum members are in the EU referendum - after all, it is their futures which this decision will affect."
