MP JOINS GREY PRIDE CAMPAIGN!
Local MP Tim Farron has thrown his support behind the Grey Pride campaign last Friday at Elleray Gardens in Windermere.
On Friday Tim attended morning tea at Elleray Gardens, and met Grey Pride supporters to hear why they believe the appointment of a dedicated Minister for Older People is so important.
The Grey Priders explained that whilst older people are fast becoming one of the largest groups in the country, making up 40 per cent of voters, there is no government minister dedicated to ensuring the issues that affect them are properly addressed. Tim signed their petition and formally joined the campaign.
Last week their combined paper and online signatures came in at over 60,000 and they now have 61 MPs signed up to their Early Daily Motion.
Tim after signing the petition said: "Meeting with residents at Elleray Gardens on Friday and joining their campaign was great! They are right that we need the Government to appoint a dedicated Minister for Older People - but that is just the start of the work we need to do. I want to work with them to make sure that older people are properly respected and listened to, not just by government but by society as a whole."
