MP invites new BBC Director General to Cumbria for 'Question Time' event with public
South Lakes MP Tim Farron has written to the new Director General of the BBC today, inviting him to come to Cumbria and meet with BBC staff and members of the public to answer their questions.
George Entwistle was announced as the new BBC Director General yesterday, replacing the outgoing Mark Thompson. George will take over the reins of the BBC in the autumn. Tim has invited George to come and visit BBC staff inCumbriaand asked him to attend an open question and answer session in theSouthLakes.
During last year's campaign to save BBC Radio Cumbria, Tim asked BBC bosses to come and visit the county and see the depth of feeling for local services. Tim has now asked the new Director General to come to Cumbria to answer questions from the public on the future of the BBC.
Commenting, Tim said: "I have today invited George Entwistle to come to visit BBC Radio Cumbria, meet with the staff and the NUJ and listen to them. I also want him to come face to face with local listeners and answer their questions. I think it would be useful for him to come up to Cumbria at the earliest opportunity, to see how respected and loved the BBC is in our county. I think it could help him in his decision making process in the coming few years."
