South Lakes MP Tim Farron joined with local school teachers and pupils to formally open this year's Schools Technology Tournament in Windermere last Friday morning. After opening the event, Tim joined with a team of local teachers to take part in the competition!

The competition was a major success and had 29 teams from local schools in groups of four pupils who were challenged to build a beacon to help advertise a charity of their choice. Teamwork and creativity were of the essence and some very commendable results were presented by all the teams.

Tim said: "I really enjoyed the School Technology Tournament - I joined with a team of local school teachers and I just want to take this opportunity to apologise to them for my lack of technical skills! To see what the pupils could do in such a short amount of time was very impressive. The event really did give local students the chance to showcase their skills and I felt thoroughly showed up in comparison!

"I want to congratulate Kirkbie Kendal and Queen Katherine School for winning on the day but I also want to say well done to all the schools for taking part."
