South Lakes MP Tim Farron has welcomed research that shows record levels of satisfaction for chemotherapy patients at Westmorland General.

The University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust revealed that 100 per cent of patients rated the service as 'good' or better - with 97 per cent saying the service was 'very good' or 'excellent'.

The survey was conducted nationally by Quality Health. When broken down, local patients said their service was responsive to their needs.

The Trust performed 'as well as' or 'better than' average on 46 of the 52 questions asked in the survey.

The chemotherapy unit was brought to Westmorland General Hospital after a long running campaign by Tim and the Westmorland Gazette.

Tim said: "Together with local residents and the Westmorland Gazette's shorter journeys, longer lives campaign, we brought this vital service to our hospital. We must now defend the services we have and extend them by bringing radiotherapy and give our hospital the full cancer treatment unit that South Lakes people deserve."
