MP EXPRESSES DISAPPOINTMENT AT CABINET REPORT ON BALIOL SCHOOL - but campaign to save school continues
Local MP Tim Farron has expressed his disappointment at a report being considered by North Yorkshire County Council's Executive Committee today on the future of Baliol School in Sedbergh.
Councillors at the meeting in Northallerton this morning are being asked to consider a report which accepts the case against centralising North Yorkshire's provision for children and young people with behavioural, emotional and social difficulties (BESD), but still proposes the closure of Baliol School.
Speaking before the meeting, Tim said: "It is disappointing that this report, which concludes the formal consultation process, is still calling for the closure of Baliol School. However, the campaign to save Baliol School continues - whether it continues to be part of North Yorkshire County Council or not.
"I've arranged a meeting in January with North Yorkshire's Corporate Director for Children and Young People's Services, Cynthia Welbourn, and Baliol's Head Teacher, Drew Anderson. I'm hopeful that we can find a solution where Baliol is saved, be that under North Yorkshire County Council or another authority."
