MP encourages schools to enter Christmas Stamp competition
South Lakes MP Tim Farron has written to all primary schools in his constituency to encourage them to take part in the Royal Mail's prestigious national art competition, which could see a local pupil's design approved by the Queen to be the official 2017 Christmas Stamp.
The Royal Mail's 'Children's Christmas Stamp Competition' 2017 will give primary school pupils the chance to have their design appear on millions of pieces of mail over the Christmas period. There are also thousands of pounds' worth of prizes for both pupils and schools to win, including regional prizes.
Only three times in Royal Mail's 500-year history have children's designs been used on UK Christmas Stamps. On the last occasion, in 2013, Royal Mail received 240,000 entries. The deadline for entries this year is Friday 17th March.
Tim said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for local pupils to create a little bit of history! Having run my own Christmas Card competition for many years, I have seen first-hand the incredible artistic talent that local young people have, and am sure that entries from the South Lakes could compete with the very best. I've written to all local primary schools to encourage them to take part in this competition. I wish all pupils who enter the best of luck!"
