MP encourages residents to take part in consultation on future of Staveley care home

8 Oct 2019

Local MP Tim Farron is urging residents to get involved in the consultation on the future of the Abbey Home in Staveley.

The 28-bed home, which is operated by Cumbria County Council's Cumbria Care service, is currently home to just seven residents.

The proposals would see the home close and the site be made available for alternative uses, potentially including alternative affordable housing or care provision, such as supported elderly persons' flats.

Tim said: "The results of our recent residents' survey showed a huge demand for sheltered housing in Staveley, so these plans could provide the village with more appropriate accommodation.

"But we need to make sure that the right decisions are made for the village, and that the site doesn't get sold off."
