MP delivers ‘free Christmas postage to care homes’ petition to Royal Mail
Local MP Tim Farron has sent Royal Mail a petition asking them to allow people to send cards and parcels to their loved ones in care homes for free for the rest of the year.
Over 800 people in the South Lakes have signed Tim's petition calling on Royal Mail to follow the lead of the Irish postal company An Post who are carrying letters, large envelopes, packets and parcels up to 2kg addressed to residents in nursing and care homes for free until January 31.
Tim said: "I want to say a big thank you to everyone who signed our petition.
"This has been such a tough year for people living in care homes who have felt so isolated from their families.
"Allowing people to send letters and parcels to their loved ones in care homes for free would be a great gesture from Royal Mail to help them stay in touch with each other this Christmas."
