South Lakes MP Tim Farron and Lakes Councillor Heidi Halliday has welcomed the news that a major investment could re-open Troutbeck Pool.

Announced at the Lakes neighbourhood forum, David Howell has secured a major investment and will be working with Choices Health Club. The pool, which has found trading increasingly difficult because of rising energy costs and falling user numbers, went into administration in 2011.

Tim has worked with residents and councillors like Heidi Halliday and Jo Stephenson under the 'Save Our Pool' campaign group. The group are now seeking reassurances that the re-opened pool will still have the continuing covenants and community access.

It is believed that the re-opened pool could employ up to 20 people.

Tim said: "Troutbeck pool is a wonderful community resource and like many residents, I am concerned that we are not using it. The news that it could re-open is very welcome but we have had many false dawns before, so I am keen to work with anyone who has a viable plan to bring these community asset back into use for local people."

Lakes councillor Heidi Halliday added: "It's great to hear that Troutbeck Pool is on course to re-open. As a Mum with two young children, this means there will be swimming facilities much closer to home. I really hope that this time we can secure a long-term future for the pool."
