MP campaigns to improve Bowel Cancer awareness

23 Jun 2010

South Lakes MP Tim Farron is campaigning to raise awareness of bowel cancer with former TV presenter Lynn Faulds Wood who was diagnosed with bowl cancer a few years ago.

Bowel cancer is the second biggest cancer killer in the UK. Bowel Cancer Faster Diagnosis Week is running from 28 June, and Tim and Lynn are encouraging everyone in South Lakeland to get to know the key symptoms, to get involved in the NHS screening programme for bowel cancer and to act quickly on key symptoms and screening.

The UK is among the slowest in Europe at being diagnosed with bowel cancer. Tim is working with Lynn Faulds Wood, the former BBC Watchdog presenter who survived advanced bowel cancer.

Tim said: "Sadly every family will be touched by cancer at some point - including my own. With all major illnesses early diagnosis is key to survival. And this is why next week I'm calling for people to look at the symptoms and make sure that they know what to look out for."
