South Lakes MP Tim Farron has called for WiFi services on the West Coast Main Line to be made free to use.

Work is starting to install WiFi on First Great Western services in May 2014, with full completion due by the end of the year. Tim has long called for investment into the North West rail network, which is essential for connecting passengers and businesses. Tim believes that offering free WiFi for passengers will boost tourism and business travel to Cumbria.

Tim is writing to Virgin Trains to ask them to look at this and to bring it in on their trains.

Tim said: "I'm calling on Virgin Trains to look at rolling out WiFi on the long distance services. I've been calling for this improvement for a long time now and sought to have it written in to the franchise criteria.

"Our train services can't be allowed to fall behind other parts of the UK. This step will help keep Cumbria connected - both on rail and online."
