MP calls on national businesses - come to Kendal
South Lakes MP Tim Farron has written to a series of major national retailers asking them to look at opening new premises in Kendal.
Tim has written to major national retailers such as Nandos, Primark, John Lewis and River Island to ask them to meet with South Lakeland District Council's Economic Development Team to discuss business opportunities in the South Lakes.
According to the most recent figures released by South Lakeland District Council, there were 43 shops classed as empty in Kendal, down 11 from the 54 vacant shops recorded in September 2013 when the rate of empty units was 12%. Tim believes that one empty shop is one too many.
Tim said: "Our High Street is incredibly important and I want to do everything I possibly can to help Kendal thrive. Small businesses are key, but I want to do more to help to make our town a real attraction for shoppers. I've written to a series of national retailers, asking them to come to Kendal and see the package we can offer - good schools, beautiful landscape, good transport links and a skilled workforce. I hope that these national businesses will start serious negotiations with the council about opening a new venture here in the South Lakes."
