MP calls on County Council to provide replacement services on Princess Coaches routes
Local MP Tim Farron has today written to Jill Stannard the Chief Executive of Cumbria County Council calling on her to make sure permanent replacement services are provided after the collapse of South Lakes based bus company Princess Coaches.
The company has recently gone into receivership and on Friday were not running bus services in South Cumbria. No information was given to the public and no other bus operator had stepped in to replace them on the routes that Princess Coaches used to run - though a temporary operator was brought in on Saturday.
Tim's constituency office has been inundated with calls and letters about this as it seems to have struck over night and without warning.
Tim says, "I am saddened that a locally run business has gone into receivership and my heart goes out to them. But the county council must step in and make sure that local people are not disadvantaged by this and that replacement services continue to be provided and that a long term solution is put in place quickly. Many people especially the elderly need public transport to get around and I want to make sure they are provided for. "
