MP calls for prostate cancer screening for all men over 50
South Lakes MP Tim Farron is campaigning for prostate cancer screening to be made available for all middle-aged men.
Experts have long argued that only a national screening programme will significantly reduce deaths from the leading cancer in men.
Tim has written to the new Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care Board that commission services to ask that they mandate GP primary care practices to offer PSA blood tests to all over 50s, not just those who are symptomatic.
Tim said: "Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in UK behind breast cancer.
"So it's absolutely vital that we increase access for men to be screened so that prostate cancer be detected at the earliest opportunity, and more lives can be saved."
