South Lakes MP Tim Farron has urged the Government to deliver a support package to farmers that provides additional feed and access to emergency water supplies during the current drought.

In a letter to the Farming Minister, George Eustice, Tim said the weather is having a devastating impact on animal welfare and causing severe financial strain because farmers are having to buy in feed.

Tim has also tabled a motion in Parliament to gain backing for local farmers.

Tim said: "The hot weather and lack of rain this summer has been quite troubling for our farmers.

"The Government should provide a welfare package, particularly aimed at farmers their livestock in upland areas like ours that have been most badly hit.

"A package of food and support should be delivered to farmers so that they aren't worried about maintaining their animals in the weeks to come, without having to use up their feed for winter."
