MP calls for action on Crooklands and Endmoor power cuts

South Lakes MP Tim Farron has called on Electricity North West to create an 'Action Plan' to fix the recurring problem of black outs in South Lakeland villages.

The latest fault on overhead lines wiped out electricity to 1,253 homes last week for up to six hours. It is the second serious black out this year. The regular blackouts are affecting businesses, as well as local residents.

Gemma Shah, manager at the Crooklands Hotel on the A65, told the Westmorland Gazette that the power cuts are happening more often, averaging one every other month.

She said: "It affects everything for us - we have no computers, no phone lines, we can't cook anything. We have to cancel meetings which have been booked in. It obviously affects our guests in a big way and we lose business because of it."

Tim has written to the Chief Executive of the Electricity North West and asked to see and see a plan to finally fix the problem for local residents.

Tim said: "Local residents cannot be expected to be without electricity as frequently as it seems to happen at the moment. I've asked Electricity North West to provide me with their plan to fix the problem - I want to see real action for local residents and an end to this huge inconvenience."
