MP - business boost for South Lakeland
South Lakes MP Tim Farron has welcomed the news that yet again the highest amount of start-up businesses in Cumbria have been created in the South Lakes.
Figures collated by the organisation Banksearch and released as part of the Cumbria Intelligence Observatory Labour Market Briefing for January 2015 show that there were 697 business start-ups in Cumbria in the quarter Sep-Nov 2014.
The highest number of start-ups, 165 was in South Lakeland (24% of all start-ups) followed by Allerdale with 131 (19%) and Carlisle with 128 (18%).
The highest proportion of start-ups in the quarter was in the real estate & professional services sector with 212 (30%) followed by recreation, personal & community services with 96 (14%) and construction with 92 (13%).
Tim has previously said that our area is the 'start up hub' of Cumbria, after the last set of figures again showed that South Lakeland had created the most 'start up' businesses in the county.
Tim said: "Seeing so many entrepreneurs setting up their own businesses is fantastic and shows that South Lakeland is the entrepreneurial centre of Cumbria. Seeing people setting up their own business will really benefit our area - creating wealth, jobs and growth for our community.
"We need to support them and I will keep doing all I can to help small businesses locally."
