MP backs River Kent flood defence plans in Parliament
Local MP Tim Farron has tabled a motion in Parliament in support of the flood defence plans for the River Kent.
Since Storm Desmond devastated communities along the river back in 2015, Tim has consistently pushed for the Government and the Environment Agency to get on with plans to protect homes and businesses.
The multi-million-pound plans, which would protect over 1,400 homes and 1,100 businesses, are set to go to a planning meeting at the end of March.
Tim said: "I've never been more proud of our area than when local people came together to help out our friends and neighbours whose homes and businesses were ruined either by Storm Desmond or by other storms.
"But those families have had to live with the fear of that same devastation happening again for the past three years now.
"For their sake it's absolutely vital that we don't delay this any further and get on with putting these defences in place to protect people whose lives were turned upside down."
