South Lakes MP Tim Farron has backed a plan that could see parking charges cut for local residents.

As part of the council's new five-year plan launched last week, South Lakeland District Council has said that it look to introduce a card that would allow local residents to get discounted parking rates.

Local businesses have told Tim that discounted parking would make a massive difference to them. Tim has also asked the council to examine scrapping night time parking charges to give a boost to the night time economy in South Lakeland.

The council also concentrates on housing, the economy, the environment and culture and wellbeing within its plan.

Tim said: "The plan for discounted car parking for local people is something I wholeheartedly support. I hope they will progress this idea as soon as possible. Cheaper parking will boost business, boost the economy and make a difference on our high streets."
