South Lakes MP Tim Farron has written to the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority and called on them to hand over the community building on Main Street in Sedbergh to ensure its continued use by local charities and community groups.

The building at 72 Main Street in Sedbergh is currently home to many local community groups and charities. However, time is running out on the local campaign to save the building for community use. The National Park Authority is keen to sell the property even in the face of a strong community campaign to keep the valuable asset in local hands.

Sedbergh councillors Ian McPherson and Evelyn Westwood are leading the campaign locally to save the building.

Tim said: "I've written to the National Park Authority asking them to look at this decision again. Even at the 11th hour park bosses can change their minds and do what is best for the people of Sedbergh. Many local residents has said to me in the course of this campaign why should anyone support expansion of the national park if they won't look after their existing communities? It is time the National Park Authority heeds these calls and keeps this property in community hands for local to use."
