MP backs better deal for green businesses

14 Sep 2010

Local MP Tim Farron has written to Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, Chris Huhne MP, calling on him to take steps to support the growth of small local green businesses.

The government has pledged to support the growth of a low carbon economy and small businesses could play an important role in this development. However, the UK still lags behind other European nations when it comes to backing our own emerging green technology.

Tim's call comes following a visit to NJO Technology Limited, a Kendal based company who specialise in low voltage LED lighting.

One of the proposed measures is to financially support the demonstration of new green technology on public amenities or civic buildings with the aim of helping small businesses to showcase their products and encouraging public support for new green technology.

Commenting, Tim said: "Green businesses are a growing and important part of the local and national economy and I want to make sure that government is doing all it can to support their work and allowing them to flourish."
