MP and councillor urge residents to get involved in Hallgarth play area consultation

South Lakes MP Tim Farron and Hallgarth councillor Matt Severn have urged local people to get involved in the consultation over the new play area on the Hallgarth estate in Kendal.

They want to hear residents' views about what they would like to see included in the new play area. The Hallgarth Community Centre Association and South Lakeland District Council plan to rejuvenate the play area, and have £55,000 to spend on the project.

Two open consultation events are being held to discover what residents, including parents, children and users of the play area, would like to see there.

The open events will be held at Hallgarth Community Centre on Saturday, 14 February, 10am- 1pm and Thursday, 19 February, 4pm- 6pm.

The campaign originally planned to try and fundraise £20,000 for the project.

South Lakeland district councillor for Hallgarth Matt Severn said: "It's really great that at last, after much campaigning from the local community Tim Farron and myself, the children, young people and families of Hallgarth will be getting their play area back and it will be better than ever!

"I am urging local people to come along and let us know what they want to see at the play area. I will keep pressing until the work starts!"

Tim added: "I want to thank Matt for all his work on this. When I'm on the estate people always mention the play area. I am delighted we have secured nearly triple the original target!

"I hope that lots of local families get involved and we make sure that we build a facility that will be much used and well loved."
