More start up businesses show the "entrepreneurial spirit of the Lakes" says Farron
Lakes MP Tim Farron has welcomed recently released information by the Cumbria Intelligence Observatory which shows that yet again South Lakeland is the top place within the county for start-up businesses. Tim has praised local businesses and start up companies for their 'entrepreneurial spirit'.
Figures collated by the organisation Banksearch show that there were 720 business start-ups in Cumbria in the quarter Aug-Oct 2014. 161 were in South Lakeland (22% of all start-ups), followed by Allerdale with 142 (20%) and Carlisle with 133 (19%). The highest proportion of start-ups in the quarter was in the real estate & professional services sector with 195 (27%), followed by recreation, personal & community services with 108 (15%) and construction with 94 (13%).
Tim has previously said that our area is the 'start up hub' of Cumbria, after the last set of figures again showed that South Lakeland had created the most 'start up' businesses in the county.
Tim said: "This news is very welcome and shows that our area has some great business people with some wonderful ideas. It is great to see so many people striking out on their own and setting up a business. These figures show that the Lakes is the entrepreneurial hub of Cumbria."
